Project description

Council is completing road safety upgrades on Livingstone Blvd, Pakenham, as part of Council’s Local Area Traffic Improvement program.

The scope of works for Livingstone Blvd includes:

  • the installation of 4x speed cushions and 3x raised safety platforms
  • street lighting to compliment these new changes to the road environment.

Council completed community consultation regarding the installation of local area traffic management devices/speed humps, otherwise referred to as speed humps, in 2022.

This consultation was prompted by a review of road safety in the area, which identified significant risk due to the number of reported crashes, customer requests and the traffic and speed data.

A Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) device aims to manage traffic safety, whilst improving the road environment for pedestrians and cyclists through slowing vehicular speeds along a roadway.

The installation of LATM devices support efficient travel on roads, manage the environmental impact of road traffic and improve the liveability and amenity for the community.

LATM devices are typically proposed to be installed on roads where there is problems with traffic speeds and / or where there is a history of road crashes. These devices are typically a road design change, designed to improve driver behaviour, reduce traffic speeds, and minimise the risk of serious or fatal crashes.

Council has a responsibility to respond to crash history and ensure the continuity of community safety for all road users, pedestrians, and neighbouring residents.
