Level crossing removals – Beaconsfield
The Victorian Government has removed the level crossing at Station Street in Beaconsfield by building a new road bridge over the rail line.
The road bridge design was quicker to build and less disruptive for motorists and rail passengers, as the majority of the works were able to be built offline.
The removal of the Station Street level crossing will improve safety and reduce congestion for local residents, and allow for more trains to run more often on the Pakenham line.
Works are still underway to remove the signalling infrastructure, build the shared user paths and finish landscaping around the station.

This is an external project being funded and delivered by the Victorian Government’s Big Build project.
Progress update
From Monday 24 March, LXRP opened the new road bridge and permanently closed the Station Street level crossing.
In 2024, LXRP, in collaboration with Council, Geographic Naming Victoria (GNV), Beaconsfield Progress Association (BPA), and the community, conducted a consultation to name the new road bridge.
After a community vote, McKenna Drive was chosen to honour Carmel McKenna for her significant contributions to the Beaconsfield community.
