The Princes Highway Intersections project will transform local roads to cope with future growth and to improve travel for generations to come.

This key infrastructure project will provide safer travel for all road users, while improving connectivity and access along this vital growth corridor. These intersection upgrades are expected to reduce congestion and improve travel time reliability along this corridor.

Project description

The Officer Precinct Structure Plan outlines that McMullen Rd and Princes Highway intersection will be fully signalised in future.

McMullen Road, Officer is currently being considered for upgrades as part of Council’s Princes Highway intersection program.

The McMullen Road and Princes Highway intersection is currently managed by the Department of Transport.

Funding

Council is currently advocating for state and federal funding to see this intersection upgraded, and future works are pending the outcome of external funding applications.

Designs for the intersections are funded through developer contributions.

Until such time additional funding becomes available, construction of these intersections will not be able to proceed.

Progress update

To upgrade and signalise this intersection, the current layout needs to be reconfigured to allow for additional turning lanes and traffic lights. The intersection upgarde requires the removal and ultimate rellocation of the exisiting weighbridges by the Victorian Government authorities. Without its rellocation, Council is unable to proceed with this project.

Council is continuing to work alongside the Department of Transport to advocate for this important upgrade, safety improvements around the intersection and for the rellocation of the weighbridge, so the project can progress.

Developer works

Please note that developers are currently completing upgrade works around McMullen Road, which includes a road closure. Delays are expected and please seek an alternate route.
