Project description

To help improve pedestrian and cyclist safety and access to public transport, a new shared-use path has been constructed from Hickson Rd to the railway line. The new path now connects into the Officer Station carpark located off Officer South Road from the existing path.

Works included:

• Pavement construction
• Construction of a 2.5m wide shared use path from Hickson Road and finishing opposite the Officer Station carpark entrance
• Line marking and signage to the new shared-use path
• Drainage improvement works

As part of the Level Crossing Removal Project in mid-2024, the Victorian Government closed Station Street to through traffic at the crossing on Officer South Rd.

This decision was endorsed by the Secretary to the Department of Transport and Planning under the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act 2009 (section 186D(1)(d)).

This closure has caused a change in access for larger heavy vehicles along Officer South Road between Hickson Road and the former level crossing, which is now a dead end. Please note that there are no plans to reopen Station Street over the level crossing as part of these works.

Funding

This project is funded by the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project.

Progress update

Construction is now complete on a new shared-use path along Officer South Road in Officer. Works were completed from May – June 2025.

The shared use path upgrades will help support the future delivery of the Officer South Rd bridge and ultimate cross section outlined in the Officer Precinct Structure Plan, which will see this road reconnect into Princes Highway.

Please note that these additional upgrades will be pending future design plans, approvals and funding allocations.
