Project description
As part of Cardinia Shire Council’s ‘Local Area Traffic Management (LATM)’ program, it has been proposed that traffic management devices are installed along Eagle Drive, Pakenham.
Eagle Drive, Pakenham is currently ranked as one of the top 5 locations on the priority list due to:
- Significant crash history and increased crash risk
- Recorded speeding around a residential area
- Feedback from stakeholders
There have been 3 reported crashes in a 5-year period. In comparison to other roads managed by Council, this crash rate is considered quite high.
The default, standard speed limit along a major collector road in a built-up environment is 50 km/h, which applies to Eagle Drive.
Speeding is also a reoccurring issue along Eagle Drive, with the average speed along this road was recorded at 58.5km/h, despite the speed limit being 50km/h in this residential area.
To help address road safety concerns, Council is proposing to install the following traffic management devices:
- 3 sets of asphalt speed humps
- Modifications to existing roundabouts to assist with further reducing vehicle speed when travelling through the roundabout
- Improvements to the road alignment on approach to one the roundabouts, to assist in the reduction of vehicle speed on approach to the roundabout.
- Lighting around the new local area traffic management devices
The installation of LATM devices support efficient travel on roads, manage the environmental impact of road traffic and improve the liveability, amenity for the community.
