Project description

Council is planning on upgrading pedestrian crossings on Village Way, Pakenham.

Located across from a shopping centre and train station, Village Way has been identified as a high priority location for a future pedestrian crossing.

As there is a history of pedestrian related crashes occurring, the construction of a pedestrian crossing has been fast-tracked at this location, with the support of additional funding from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

To improve pedestrian safety, these upgrades will include a 3-leg wombat (zebra) crossing on all three legs of the Village Way and Park Orchard Drive intersection with flashing lights on both Village Way crossings.

Funding

This project will be jointly funded by Council and the Transport Accident Commission.

Progress update

Construction is now underway.

Council has appointed Camlex Electrical Pty Ltd as the contractor to complete these works on its behalf.

Construction is expected to be completed in January 2025, conditions permitting.

Disruptions

  • Traffic management including reduced speed limits and traffic and footpath detours will be in place until construction is complete, and the lights are turned on.
  • From 23 September to 2 October 2024, a temporary road closure will be place around the existing raised speed hump outside of Lakeside Square Shopping Centre on Village Way.
    • A temporary bus stop will be installed on Park Orchard Drive in 3 existing parking bays. During this time, drivers and residents will be unable to park or stop in these parking bays along Park Orchard Drive, so that the bus service can safely access this area as the bus stop.
  • Detours will be in place and drivers are encouraged to access Fitzroy Street to access the Lakeside Square carpark or Park Orchard Drive and Golden Green Street to access the Cardinia Road train station and other amenities.
  • The crossing will remain closed to pedestrian access, until the flashing crossing lights are turned on by Ausnet (approx January 2025).

Design plans are available for review on Creating Cardinia
