Boollam Boollam Child and Family Centre | Pakenham
Construction is well underway at the Boollam Boollam Child and Family Centre in Pakenham (formerly known as Thewlis Integrated Child and Family Centre). This facility will provide space for kindergarten, Maternal and Child Health services, playgroups and parenting programs as well as allied health services and wellbeing programs – ensuring families can access the services they need, close to home.
The exciting project received funding from Victorian Government through the Victorian School Building Authority’s Building Blocks Capacity Grant Program, and from developer contributions.
The facility was named ‘Boollam Boollam’, meaning butterfly, following consultation with Council’s Place Naming Committee, the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation and the Cardinia Shire community.
Project description
The Boollam Boollam Child and Family Centre will include:
- three kindergarten program rooms
- one community room, which could be converted to an additional kindergarten room in future
- three consult rooms to cater for Maternal and Child Health, and other allied health professionals
- staff room with kitchen space and planning room
- outdoor play space
- off-street carparking
- community art project, and
- other community amenities.
Funding
The project is jointly funded by the Victorian Government, developer contributions and Council.
Progress update
Works are now underway onsite.
The project is scheduled to be operational from January 2025.
Past updates
- Tender closed in September 2023 and the contract has been awarded.
- Building permit is expected to be issued in first week of December with site establishment. Construction has started onsite and is progressing.
- Community engagement activities were undertaken during June 2024 for selection of the official facility name.
