Upgrade works have been completed on the James Street public carpark (near Main Street, Pakenham).

Project description

As part of council’s annual carpark maintenance works, the public carpark was sealed to improve community accessibility to community facilities and amenities, and reduce dust, pollution, and maintenance issues.

Works also included:

  • pavement construction
  • drainage improvements
  • kerb and channel
  • line marking
  • installation of 8 wildlife sensitive solar lights
  • landscaping works.

Eight new wildlife sensitive solar lights were installed in the carpark to minimise disruptions to local wildlife. Using warm, amber coloured LED globes, these lights mimic natural light and help to improve and regulate sleep, behaviour, feeding, growth, development, and reproduction in wildlife.  These lights are directed down at the road to reduce light spill and glare for nearby wildlife.

The upgraded carpark provides the community access to 98 car spaces, including 3 accessible spots and will support the stage 1 construction of the Pakenham Revitalisation project, providing additional parking for traders and visitors.

The James Street carpark has now been reopened for the public to use to access our local shops, community groups and attractions.

Funding

Cardinia Shire Council and Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
